7-31-15. The volume is nothing more than a compendium of the same stories published in two other volumes by the same author. I would not hjave bought it had I known that as I already have the other two volumes, "The Dog Next Door" and "The Dog at My Feet". Bravo for selling additional volumes but you lost my interest in your publications that way. Nice stories, but repetition is of no value in my case.

As a dog owner and lover, it's hard to pass up a good book about these critters. This book is an easy read, filled with wonderful short stories about dogs who made an impact on their owners or simply those who came in contact with the pooches throughout their journeys in life.
Some stories are written better than others, but regardless of this, you will laugh, you may cry, and you'll certainly go love on your doggie after you read this book. I sure did.
Life has changed for me as retirement and failing health are keeping me from doing all the things I used to do. I am alone and need companionship. I have been toying with the idea of getting a dog but have not been sure that I would be able to take care of it. After reading this book I see that we can take care of each other. I will pray and ask God to match me with the Angel dog He has for me.
These dog stories are inspiring and touching. I look forward to reading a chapter or two each day. I recommend any of Callie Smith Grant's books for dog lovers! I have a friend who spends time waiting at doctor visits for her mom and she appreciates having dog short stories to read while she waits. I plan to purchase a copy of this book for her.
I haven't finished this yet but like very much. Just like any one who includes dogs as members of their family I did find places that were funny, places that cranked up the joy in my heart and sadly, places that broke my heart just like all the dogs I have known and shared my life with. I, as I am sure any dog lover, have some stories that could be told in such a book.
Read - enjoy!
THIS BOOK ABOUT OUR FOUR LEGGED FRIENDS AND THEIR ABILITIES AND THE UNDERSTANDING OF THE HUMAN BEING IS AMAZING. THEY HAVE SAVED PEOPLE'S LIVES, HELP CHILDREN OVER COME ILLNESSES AND DISABILITIES. SOME OF THESE STORIES BRING TEARS TO YOUR EYES. THE AUTHOR DOES NOT TALK ABOUT THE END OF THE DOG'S LIFE BUT THE POWERS HE HAS TO HELP HUMANS COPE WITH THER PROBLEMS. THIS BOOK IS FAST READING AND VERY HEART WARMING.
Just reading these stories makes me think that I should make a record and write some stories about the wonderful animals, cats and dogs, who have provided me with such joy. The story about the 9/11 puppies reminded me about the caring attention I received from my pets during that sad time. My pets have provided me with companionship, peace and fun. So did the dogs in this anthology of their stories. Read this, you'll be grateful that you have read this book.
I typically enjoy reading stories of redemption as respects both people and animals, so I thought this book would be right up my alley. However, while there are indeed some very sweet stories contained within this book, I found it somewhat off-putting that there were a number of them where the person was in a bad place (either figuratively or literally... sometimes both) and a dog managed to help get them through that particularly hard row in their lives and then, right when things begin to go better for them, they somehow manage to separate from that same dog who stuck by them through the hard times. Now I realize that sometimes, circumstances just don't allow people to stick together with their pets, but that didn't seem to be the case in some of the stories in this book. Perhaps it's the way the stories are written, but I cannot imagine just giving up a pet who has helped get you through some really hard times, in some cases, seemingly nonchalantly. Again, this could possibly be attributed to the way the stories were written, but even so, that aspect took a lot of the pleasure out of reading this particular book. You don't just toss off the pet after he/she has served his/her purpose in your life! I'm not saying the people put the dogs back out on the street or anything like that, but to just give away a pet who has done so much for you seems rather callous nevertheless. Because of this, I cannot say I enjoyed this book all that much. Some of the individual stories were lovely, but a few too many others left me rather cold because of what I perceived as a certain lack of feeling on the part of some of the protagonists within the stories.
